Our secondary mission is to support preservation efforts and awareness through education and positive action. In spite of our Chicago Landmark system, many of Chicago's most historic and worthy structures are under threat of decay and demolition. The Prentice Women's Hospital is currently one of those, you can click here to sign the petition to landmark the building and prevent demolition. Additionally, many of the preservation trusts we collaborate with are in dire need of funding for daily operations and restoration projects. As a guest of Chicago Savvy Tours, you will personally help keep these structures available to the public as a vital part of our cultural heritage. This is congruent with our commitment to promote Responsible and Sustainable Tourism in Chicago.
What is Sustainable Tourism?
Sustainable Tourism is a twenty-first century approach to tourism that creates a positive impact in any given region and benefits the local region, tourists, and tour operators without excessive consumption of non renewable resources and abuse of the local environment. Sustainable Tourism is realized through engagement with local culture in a noninvasive manner by leaving things as you found them, if not better than.
What is Responsible Tourism?
Responsible Tourism is a behavioral approach to achieving Sustainable Tourism by participating in the local culture of a region with ethical guidelines. Both tour operators and tourists share accountability for engaging in Responsible Tourism. From a tour operator's perspective, this means engaging with local businesses for collaborative benefit and avoiding actions that damage the environment and cultural heritage.
Chicago Savvy Tours is proud to be a green business in Chicago. Walking tours are about as green as it gets. Literally no resources are wasted in the process of conducting a Chicago walking tour. The only footprint we leave is in the earth beneath our feet.
We also strive to minimize our environmental impact through a nearly paperless administrative system. Any paper that is used is recycled.
We are happy to announce that the buses we use for our Chicago bus tours will all be green within the first six months of 2013. Green tourism in Chicago is essential to the preservation of our natural landscape, and works hand-in-hand with our concept of sustainable tourism.
